My Laser Hair Removal Experience + Q&A

This year has definitely been a big one for beauty treatments from getting my brows microbladed, to trying eyelash extensions, and now receiving laser hair removal on my legs! Ladies, you all know that the thought of not shaving your legs is like heaven on earth so having the opportunity to receive laser hair removal has been amazing.

Thanks to Dr Marcia Hartt Medical Aesthetics, I’ve been receiving their intense pulsed light
treatments since April and let me tell you, it’s been life changing! But before we get into the
details let’s chat about Dr Marcia Hartt Medical Aesthetics…

Based in Terwillegar in the SouthWest of Edmonton, this boutique high-end medispa is welcoming the minute you step through the front door. I mean, their office is accented with marble which we all know, is right up my alley! Every time I’ve gone in the ambiance is warm and inviting. The receptionists are always friendly and offer some fresh and fruity spa water or herbal tea. That might seem like a small gesture but it’s always those extra little details that I look for in a spa and that sets them apart.

I’ve been keeping you guys updated on my hair removal journey on Instagram stories and have received a handful of questions about my experience which I’ve been saving so I can answer them in today’s post!

Now, let’s get into it…

There are so many types of hair removal, which one are you receiving?
The spa I’m going to offers Intense Pulsed Light- Dynamic Pulse Control (IPL-DCP) hair
removal. I know that’s kind of a mouth full, but long name or not, the treatment has been working like a charm.

Does it hurt?

For me personally, I have to say no. I’ve talked to multiple people who have received hair
removal treatments and the answer always varies depending on the type of laser.
Because their IPL-DPC treatment uses heat with simultaneous cooling the pain is far less than other lasers and for me has been comparable to a rubber band snapping against my skin. I wouldn’t say it’s painful, but it’s more annoying. But hey, for smooth hairless legs, I can definitely handle annoying!

How many treatments will I need?

This will depend on the person and how dense your hair is but I’ve been told it can take
anywhere from 6 -10 treatments. I’m moving onto my 5th treatment now and am starting to see
some real results, yay! But I have to say, that even after the first treatment I noticed slower regrowth. I’ve been told that the reason you’ll need multiple appointments is because hair grows in different stages.

Can I tan during the process?

Sun exposure is not allowed prior to your laser hair removal treatments. I started my
treatments in April which at the time was no big deal but as soon as summer approached I really
had to try my best to stay out of the sun which was difficult. Had I known, I would have preferred
starting my treatments in the fall but if you are considering laser treatments, now is the perfect time to get started. You’ll have smooth and hairless legs by summer!

What side effects can I expect?

I can only speak from my own experience on this one and have to say that the side effects have
been minimal. I have fairly sensitive skin and the first couple of treatments I experienced a little
bit of redness but that was about it. Now that I’m going onto my 5th treatment the side effects
have involved some irritation and itching in certain areas but it’s been manageable with a bit of
topical cream.

How long do I need to wait between treatments?

For the IPL treatments it’s suggested to wait 6 to 8 weeks between treatments.

Where are you getting it done?

Incase you missed it, I’ve been going to Dr Marcia Hartt Medical Aesthetics! The spa offers
free consultations and laser test patches, so if hair removal is something you’re interested in I would highly recommend you check them out and take advantage of their great deal on laser hair removal packages!
