In honour of Canada day I figured it was the perfect time to share a fun Canada Day cocktail with all of you! I love me some sangria so finding this watermelon and strawberry sangria recipe was just too delicious not to share. Of course this cocktail is red in honour of the true north strong and free and I couldn’t pass up these cute ice cream cone cups to serve it in. I mean, it’s a cup in the shape of an ice cream cone how cute is that!?!
Ingredients:
1 small seedless watermelon
1 1lbs strawberries
1 bottle of white zinfandel or rose wine
1 cup vodka
1 cup fresh orange juice (I added a little more because I love OJ)
1/2 cup orange liqueur
1 orange, sliced
1 lime, sliced
Now let’s get to work…
- Remove rind from watermelon and cut into large chunks
- Hull and slice strawberries into chunks, reserve 1 cup for garnish
- Combine strawberries and watermelon into a blender and blend until smooth; can add a splash of vodka if needed to puree fruit
- Strain into a large pitcher, need about 4 cups of juice total
- Add wine, vodka, orange juice, liqueur and stir to combine
- Add orange juice and lime slices
- Cover and refrigerate for at least an hour or up to 24 hours
- Just before service add the reserved strawberries and serve in a glass over ice
Cheers!
